Uniform properties around the whole section. Hot-finished EN 10210 sections are normalized, so the corners and flats have the same properties. There is no cold-worked corner zone to treat as a special case in repeated-load details.

Impact grades you can test and document. J2H, K2H, NH and NLH grades come with Charpy testing at the specified temperature, with results per lot on the certificate.

A more stable base for welding. Heavy sections are welded with high heat input and often in multiple passes. Normalized steel with controlled chemistry per heat gives your welding engineer a predictable starting point.

We also supply cold-formed EN 10219 sections for heavy duty frames where wall and temperature allow. We will tell you which route fits your service when you send the drawing, because the wrong route costs more than the right grade.

In repeated-load structures, cracks start at surface imperfections and sharp notches. These are the product features we control for heavy duty orders:

• Surface imperfection control. We inspect the full length of each piece for laps, pits, rolled-in scale and arc marks. Imperfections are dressed by grinding within the wall tolerance, and pieces that cannot be dressed are rejected.
• Wall uniformity. We check wall thickness at several points on every piece, so your calculation wall is the wall you receive.
• Straightness for machine assembly. Straight members reduce forced fit-up and locked-in stress when frames are welded or bolted.
• Square, burr-free ends. Saw-cut ends sit flat on base plates and end plates and reduce grinding before heavy welds.
• Internal weld seam on welded sections. Seam flash is controlled and, on request, we can arrange the seam position to suit your detail.

Structural hollow section is not abrasion-resistant steel. Where material slides against the tube, such as chutes and liners, we advise adding sacrificial wall or a bolt-on wear plate rather than relying on the section. For impact from vehicles or loads, extra wall and a suitable grade work well, and we can quote options side by side.

A heavy equipment builder in Southeast Asia ordered 120 pcs of 200x200x12.5 mm S355J2H SHS, 6 m long (about 38 t) for a ship-loader frame. On the previous order from another source, magnetic particle testing at weld preparation found surface laps on 11 pieces (9%). Dressing them cost workshop time, and some had to be scrapped because grinding would have taken the wall below the tolerance.

For our order, we inspected every piece on its full length before release and dressed or rejected imperfections at our end. At the customer's MT inspection, 1 piece out of 120 needed dressing, and no pieces were scrapped. The frame went to welding on schedule.
