A closed section that resists twisting and buckling. Hollow sections carry compression and torsion efficiently, which suits columns, bracing and roof members.

Less surface to coat. A hollow section has less surface area per tonne than an open section, so paint, galvanizing and fire protection use less material.

Clean lines with no ledges. Smooth faces collect less dust and water, and look tidy where steel is left exposed.

Compact members in tight architectural zones. Slim columns and chords keep floor area and sight lines free.

We supply both cold-formed (EN 10219) and hot-finished (EN 10210) sections for buildings, and we recommend the route that matches your loads and temperatures when you send the drawing.

Paint and intumescent fire coating thin out on sharp edges, so the corners are where coating failures usually start.

• Cold-formed sections have rounded outer corners from production, which holds a more even coating film on the edge. This suits painted and intumescent-coated columns.
• Sharp-corner sections are available for glazing, cladding and architectural frames where a square edge is part of the design. We discuss the coating system with you at enquiry so the edge is planned, not an afterthought.

• Black for interior dry steel that will be painted or coated on site
• Blasted and primed with a primer compatible with your topcoat or intumescent system (send us the paint data sheet)
• Painted to your colour and film thickness, for exposed members
• Hot-dip galvanized for exterior, coastal and humid buildings, with vent and drain holes planned for each section
• End caps on request, to keep the inside clean during storage

Concrete-filled columns carry higher loads in a smaller footprint and help with fire resistance. For these columns we supply:

• CHS and SHS sized to your design code's diameter-to-wall limit. We check the wall you specify and tell you early if it is outside the limit.
• Clean bore. Ends are capped and the inside is kept free of loose scale and oil.
• Square, flat saw-cut ends for base plates, end plates and splices
• Wall and OD checked per piece, so the steel area you design with is the steel area you receive

• Cut-to-length to your member schedule, with square, burr-free ends
• Marking per member with grade, size and heat number, so site crews match steel to drawing
• Drilling, end plates and welded fittings can be arranged for repeat members
• Mixed sizes and grades from one factory on one order
• Documents: EN 10204 3.1 certificate as standard, 3.2 with SGS, BV or TUV witness on request, and CE marking where your market requires it

A steel contractor in Southeast Asia needed 96 pcs of 200x100x6 mm RHS columns, 6 m long (about 17 t), primed and topcoated for a school gymnasium. On the previous supply, which had sharp edges, the coating inspector found the edge film below the specified thickness on 31 of 96 columns (32%), and the contractor lost days on touch-up before handover.

We supplied cold-formed RHS with rounded outer corners, blasted and primed in our workshop with the primer the topcoat supplier had approved. At inspection, 3 of 96 columns (3%) needed edge touch-up, and the contractor met the handover date.
