Internal epoxy lining pipe is a steel pipe with a protective epoxy coating applied to the internal surface of the pipe.

Unlike external pipeline coatings such as 3PE, 3PP and external FBE, internal epoxy lining is designed to protect the inside surface of the steel pipe from water-related corrosion and to provide a smooth internal flow surface.

Internal epoxy lining is widely considered for:

Internal Epoxy Lining Standards for Water Pipelines

Different markets and applications use different standards.

• AWWA C210-24: covers liquid-epoxy coatings and linings for steel water pipe and fittings. The standard addresses shop- and field-applied liquid epoxy systems for steel water pipe and fittings used underground or underwater under normal construction conditions.

•  AWWA C213-22: covers fusion-bonded epoxy coatings and linings for steel water pipe and fittings. It is another important reference when an FBE-based internal lining system is specified.

Internal epoxy lining has another important benefit for water transmission pipelines: it creates a smooth internal surface. Compared with a rough or corroded steel surface, a properly applied epoxy lining can provide a smoother flow path.
