S275 Rectangular Hollow Section
Details
We manufacture S275 rectangular hollow sections (RHS) for beams, purlins, frames and supports. The grades are S275J0H and S275J2H, produced to EN 10219 (cold-formed) or EN 10210 (hot-finished). Our focus on rectangular sections is geometry control: flat faces, low twist and square corners, so your parts fit together the first time.

Which RHS Sizes Do Our Customers Choose for Which Jobs?

Size Class (approx.) Typical Use
40 x 20 to 80 x 40 mm Handrails, gates, racks, light frames, furniture bases
100 x 50 to 200 x 100 mm Purlins, mezzanine beams, platform framing, truss chords
250 x 150 to 400 x 200 mm Main beams, portal frame members, crane and machine structures

Why Do Buyers Choose S275 RHS Instead of SHS or Open Sections?

  • More bending capacity where you need it. A rectangular section puts more steel in the direction of the load, so a beam can be lighter than a square section carrying the same span.
  • Closed shape, clean look. Fewer edges, no web or flange to trap dirt, and smoother lines for exposed steelwork.
  • Less surface to coat. A closed hollow section has less exposed area than many open sections of similar capacity, which helps paint and galvanizing cost.
  • S275 keeps cost and workshop effort down where strength is not the limiting factor.

How Do We Control Face Flatness, Twist and Squareness on Rectangular Sections?

Rectangular sections are more likely than square ones to show wide faces that bulge, sides that lean, or a slight twist along the length. These faults do not always affect strength, but they cause gaps at end plates, poor fit at welded joints and rework in your shop. Our control points:

  • Coil width matched to the rectangular perimeter, so the forming rolls are not forced to stretch the steel.
  • Round-to-rectangle forming with staged sizing rolls, which shape the corners before the flat faces are set.
  • Sizing and straightening after welding, to set face flatness and straightness.
  • Inspection at the start of every size run and after every roll change, before the batch continues.
  • Sample measurement during the run: outside dimensions, wall thickness, squareness, twist, face concavity or convexity, straightness.
  • Cutting on a fixed-stop saw, so cut lengths and end squareness stay consistent.

Tell us if your parts will be bolted through end plates or welded in a jig. We can agree tighter limits than usual on request, depending on size and wall.

How Do We Test S275 Rectangular Hollow Section Before Shipment?

  • Tensile test (yield, tensile strength, elongation) on samples from each lot
  • Impact test for S275J0H and S275J2H at the temperature of your grade
  • Dimensional and geometry check as listed above
  • Weld seam check by the method the standard requires
  • Chemical analysis linked to the heat number on the EN 10204 3.1 certificate

Third-party inspection by SGS, BV, TUV or your own inspector can be arranged at our plant.

Where Is S275 Rectangular Hollow Section Used?

  • Mezzanine floors and industrial platforms
  • Purlins, rafters and portal frame members
  • Roof trusses, canopies and carports
  • Machine frames, conveyor supports and racks
  • Truck bodies, trailers and container frames
  • Fences, gates, railings and handrails
  • Signage, gantries and solar mounting structures

FAQ

Q: How should I write the RHS size on my order?

A: Give height x width x wall thickness, in millimetres, for example 200 x 100 x 6. Also confirm the length and the standard.

Q: Can you supply mixed sizes and lengths in one container?

A: Yes. We can load different sizes and cut lengths together, with separate bundles and clear marking for each.

Q: Can you agree tighter twist or straightness limits than usual?

A: On request, depending on size and wall. Tell us the joint type and the fit-up problem you want to avoid, and we will confirm what we can hold.

Q: What do you need for a quotation?

A: Size (height x width x wall), quantity, length, grade (J0H or J2H), standard, finish, cutting or bevelling needs and destination port.
