Overview of 3PE Coated Spiral Welded Steel Pipe (SSAW)
- 3PE coated spiral welded steel pipe, also known as 3LPE coated SSAW pipe, is large-diameter carbon steel pipe with three-layer polyethylene external anti-corrosion coating.
- The base pipe is Spiral Submerged Arc Welded (SSAW) pipe, manufactured by rolling steel strip and continuous submerged arc welding. The 3PE coating consists of epoxy primer, adhesive layer and polyethylene outer layer.
- This anti-corrosion system protects steel substrate from soil, moisture and chemical corrosion underground. It is the most popular pipeline solution for buried long-distance oil, natural gas and water transmission projects.
Standards & Material Grades of 3PE SSAW Pipe
- Our 3PE anti-corrosion spiral steel pipes comply with global international standards.
- Base pipe standard: API 5L (PSL1 / PSL2), GB/T 9711
- 3PE coating standard: SY/T 0413, DIN 30670
- Common steel grades: Gr.B, X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70
- Mill Test Certificate (MTC) will be supplied for every batch. Third-party inspection like SGS, BV, Intertek is acceptable before shipment.
3 Layer Polyethylene (3PE / 3LPE) Coating Structure
The 3PE coating system has three functional layers:
- Epoxy primer layer (FBE): good adhesion, chemical resistance.
- Adhesive copolymer layer: bonds FBE and PE layer tightly.
- Polyethylene outer layer: mechanical protection against scratch, impact and soil stress. Advantages: high impact resistance, low water permeability, long service life for underground buried pipelines.

Production & Quality Inspection for 3PE SSAW Pipe
- The SSAW base pipe is fabricated by spiral submerged arc welding. After pipe forming and weld inspection, the steel pipe surface is blast-cleaned to Sa 2.5 grade before coating application.
- Our factory carries out strict tests: weld NDT (ultrasonic & X-ray test), coating thickness test, holiday spark test, adhesion test and visual inspection. All test records are retained for MTC document.
Packing & Container Shipment
- Pipe ends are protected by steel end caps (blue protective discs as shown in photo). Pipes are bundled and fixed for sea transport. Markings printed on each pipe: size, grade, heat number, standard and Brisk Steel brand.
- We offer FCL sea shipment for 20GP,40GP,40HQ or bulk vessel for extra large diameter pipes.
