Steel Tube For Engineering Construction
Details
Steel square tube, also known as square hollow section (SHS), is a core structural steel product widely adopted in modern civil engineering, building construction, and industrial infrastructure projects. Manufactured via strict hot rolling, cold forming, ERW high-frequency welding and seamless processing technologies, our construction-grade square steel tubes feature a uniform square cross-section, stable internal structure, and consistent wall thickness. As a high-performance hollow structural section (HSS), it solves the stress unevenness defect of traditional profile steels, delivering outstanding torsional resistance, compressive strength and bending resistance to meet the rigorous load-bearing and durability requirements of all types of engineering construction scenarios .

What is EN 10219? Understanding the Standard

The EN 10219 European Standard specifies the technical delivery conditions for cold-formed welded structural hollow sections of circular, square, or rectangular forms. Unlike hot-finished tubes (EN 10210), EN 10219 tubes are formed at ambient temperatures, which provides a smooth surface finish, tighter dimensional tolerances, and high cost-efficiency for structural applications.

Key Classifications We Supply:

  • S235JRH: Ideal for general structural applications requiring reliable weldability and essential strength.

  • S275J0H / S275J2H: Offers enhanced yield strength and impact resistance at lower temperatures ($0^\circ\text{C}$ and $-20^\circ\text{C}$).

  • S355J0H / S355J2H: The industry standard for high-strength requirements, maximizing load-bearing capacity while minimizing structural weight.

Why Choose Our EN 10219 Steel Tubes?

1. Superior Dimensional Accuracy

Our advanced cold-forming mills ensure strict adherence to EN 10219 tolerances for straightness, wall thickness, and concavity/convexity. This guarantees seamless fit-up on-site, reducing fabrication time and labor costs.

2. High-Strength & Weight Optimization

Utilizing high-grade S355 steel allows engineers to design lighter structures without compromising safety. This reduction in material weight translates directly to lower transportation costs and smaller carbon footprints.

3. Rigorous Quality Control & Certification

Every batch undergoes stringent testing to guarantee compliance before dispatch. We provide full traceability with Mill Test Certificates (MTC)

according to EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2.

  • Mechanical Testing: Tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation.

  • Impact Testing: Charpy V-notch impact tests at specified temperatures ($0^\circ\text{C}$, $-20^\circ\text{C}$).

  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Eddy Current or Ultrasonic testing on the weld seam to ensure absolute integrity.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between EN 10219 and EN 10210 steel tubes?

A: The primary difference lies in the manufacturing process and resulting mechanical properties. EN 10219 covers cold-formed welded tubes, which are cost-effective and have tighter dimensional tolerances. EN 10210 covers hot-finished tubes, which exhibit lower internal stresses and better performance under extreme dynamic loads, but generally come at a higher cost.

Q: What do the designations "JRH", "J0H", and "J2H" mean?

A: These designations indicate the impact test requirements for the steel grade:

  • JRH: No specific impact test required.

  • J0H: Impact test performed at 0℃ with a minimum energy absorption of 27 Joules.

  • J2H: Impact test performed at -20℃ with a minimum energy absorption of 27 Joules (ideal for cold-climate applications).

Q: Can EN 10219 steel tubes be hot-dip galvanized?

A: Yes, absolutely. Our EN 10219 steel tubes can be supplied with a hot-dip galvanized coating to provide excellent long-term corrosion protection, making them ideal for outdoor and marine environments.
