Chemical Composition & Weldability

 

focus on welding performance because most hollow sections need on-site cutting, welding and assembly.

  • Max Carbon Equivalent (CEV) ≤ 0.43: Low carbon & controlled alloy content ensures excellent weldability with all common welding methods (arc welding).
  • Important tip for clients: C450 strength is formed by cold forming work-hardening. The welding heat-affected zone (HAZ) will have slight strength reduction, which is normal and fully compliant with AS 4100 structural design code.

A:For normal wall thickness below 12mm, pre-heating is not required. For thick sections over 12mm, low-level pre-heating is recommended to avoid welding cracks.
