EN10225 Weldable Structural Steels for Offshore Structures

Seamless hollow sections up to and including 40mm thick and high frequency electric resistance welded hollow sections up to and including 20mm thick in EN10225 standard are used for weldable steels in fabrication of fixed offshore structures, designed to operate in offshore sector but not to steels supplied for the fabrication of subsea pipelines, risers, process equipment, process piping, and other utilities. When this kind of hollow section are used, due consideration is given to local weather condition.

Seamless hollow section (S)

Hollow long product, open at both ends, of circular, square or rectangular section, made by piercing a solid product to obtain a tube hollow which is further processed, hot or cold, into its final dimensions.

High frequency welded hollow section (HFW)

Hollow long product, open at both ends, of circular, square or rectangular section, made by pressure welding in a continuous or non-continuous process, in which strip is formed cold into a hollow profile and the seam weld made by heating the adjacent edges through resistance to the passage of a high frequency current and pressing the edges together.

Delivery conditions

1. Normalizing rolling, the designation of this delivery condition and of the normalized condition is +N.

2. Quenching and tempering, the designation of delivery conditions quenched and tempered is +QT.

Seamless: S355G1+N, S355G14+QT, S355G14+N, S420G6+QT, S460G6+QT

HFW: S355G1+N, S355G13+QT, S355G13+N, S420G5+QT, S460G5+QT

The steel grade of S420 and S460 are normally only available in circular form.
