  • The production process of Sharp Corner Hollow Section (SCHS) mainly uses cold bending and high-frequency welding (accounting for more than 90% of the market), while only large-diameter, thick-walled, or special material products use hot rolling. Among them, the core of the cold bending process is to achieve sharp corners by multi-pass progressive deformation and extrusion with precision sharp-corner forming dies, resulting in a small inner corner radius (r≤1.5t).

Core Forming Process

  • Cold forming process:The key to the cold forming process of hollow profiles with sharp corners is the progressive deformation through multiple die stages, ultimately forming a sharp-cornered cross-section while ensuring the quality of the weld seam and the precision of the corner angles.

1. Uncoil the material and feed it.

2. The steel strip gradually bends into an open U-shape or C-shape through the combination of horizontal and vertical rollers, with corners forming a rounded arc at this stage.

3. Then, using an acute-angle forming die, the corners of the U-shape or C-shape are forcibly formed into sharp angles.

4. The formed open profile enters the welding unit, where high-frequency induction heating melts the edges of the opening.

5. Under the high pressure of the extrusion rollers, the molten edges are welded together to form a seamless hollow profile.

6. After welding, multiple sizing rollers adjust the cross-sectional dimensions (side length, wall thickness, diagonal) to standard ranges while enhancing corner sharpness.

7. Cut the finished product to the length required by the customer, and perform chamfering, deburring, and other end treatments.

  • Heat treatment: For high-strength or stainless steel sharp-cornered hollow profiles, annealing is required to relieve the internal stresses generated during cold bending and welding, improving the material's toughness.
  • Surface anti-corrosion treatment: Depending on application requirements, treatments such as hot-dip galvanizing, electro-galvanizing, painting, or powder coating can be applied to enhance the corrosion resistance of the profiles.
  • Non-destructive testing: For high-pressure or high-demand applications, ultrasonic testing (UT) or eddy current testing (ET) of the welds is required to ensure welding quality.
